Under the new rules from 4 December you may pay Stamp Duty at several different rates, depending on
the purchase price. Under the old rules, there were several different Stamp Duty rates, but you as a homebuyer,
paid the same rate on the whole purchase price.
A land & buildings transaction tax holiday has now been implemented and will be applied to all residential purchases until 31st March 2021. The initial threshold has risen from £145,000 to £250,000. Transactions involving an additional dwelling will continue to attract a 4% surcharge.
